Extractor Fan Testing
For Self-Build, Builders and Developers
Ventilation Testing
Ventilation testing is another term used for testing extractor fan flow rates. Extractor fans are commonly found in a toilet, bathroom or kitchen. These are tested to see how much air they extract.
Why do Properties need Ventilation Testing?
Ventilation is incredibly important in all properties. A building without enough ventilation is likely to develop problems with mould, condensation and damp. Also, pollutants entering the property can cause poor indoor air quality, aggravating allergies, asthma and causing headaches. With a good ventilation system, the building will get a supply of fresh air, improving both the property's well-being and its occupants.
Part F of the Building Regulations
This government document sets out rules for the minimum level of ventilation needed in new residential properties and covers kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and utility rooms. As new building techniques have increased the air tightness of new builds, an unwelcome side effect of this is stale air. Hence the introduction in 2010 of the minimum level of ventilation - or Part F.
